The Nominating Committee has submitted candidates for new officers for 2012-13 as follows:

Columbus Literacy Council Fundraiser
Altrusans are invited to attend "Alphabet Attractions 2012: X Marks the Spot" on March 3. Now in its 23rd year, Alphabet Attractions is Columbus Literacy Council's largest fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds raised help the Council continue to provide free functional literacy and related services to the community.

Guests will enjoy a pirate-themed night filled with hors d'oeuvres, drinks and desserts, as well as special photo opportunities, a raffle, a silent auction, and a live auction. Registration is 7-7:30 pm; the gala is 7:30-10 pm.

In the News
At the February club meeting, Jan Baker told members that in the early morning hours on Martin Luther King Day, the Soltan family home in Hilliard was destroyed by an arsonist. The crime is being investigated as a possible hate crime. Jan was notified of the activity by Farida E-Fhenncwy, who was a Muslim panelist at the January club meeting. Those who wish to convey expressions of concern may contact Farida at fhennawya@hotmail.com.

Altrusa Grants for 2011/2012
Members of the Service Committee made their recommendations for grant proposals funded by the Altrusa of Columbus Foundation and were approved by club members at the September meeting. Funding has been appropriated for the Columbus Literacy Council, the Columbus Metropolitan Library Homework Help Centers, Medicine for Mali, Partners in Conservation, Critical Differences for Women Scholarships and the Women's Fund. Total amount appropriated is $25,850. Click here for complete details.
